Hopewell's typical initial investments range from $2 million to $7 million. This is optimal for Hopewell's target market, as angel networks and other initiatives are able to provide smaller, seed-stage investments, while many private equity funds offer larger investments for later-stage companies.

Hopewell's principals have built their careers in the Midwest. This region has a strong base of skilled workers and top-tier business and engineering schools, yet it falls short in the availability of equity capital for growing businesses. This capital gap creates an attractive opportunity for a regionally-focused investment fund. Most of Hopewell's portfolio companies will be located from Ohio in the east to Nebraska in the west.

Diversification is a cornerstone of Hopewell's strategy. Its management team has invested successfully in dozens of Midwest manufacturing, media, life sciences, energy, healthcare, information technology and other types of companies. Hopewell will not invest in real estate, financial institutions, or project-oriented ventures.

Hopewell invests in companies at multiple points of development, from early-stage growth through change in control. Hopewell will not invest in concept-stage companies or turnaround situations. Hopewell maintains a deep pool of reserve capital to nurture its portfolio companies through multiple rounds of investment.
